Pierre-Yves-Colin-Morey

Pierre-Yves-Colin-Morey and Rajov Kehr

A Star is Born!

Created in 2001, the Pierre-Yves Colin Morey Domaine which he runs with his wife Caroline, extends over 13 hectares in Saint Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet appellations.

I have been impressed everytime I met Pierre Yves. He comes across as a person who thinks deeply, fully embraces technology where necessary but at the same time is gifted in viticulture. Its almost paradoxical, calmness and energy. That seems to reflect in his wines which are highly sought after all over the world.

His choice to use larger demi-muid barrels and eschew the use of battonnage, makes each one of his bottlings a clear expression of its terroir and a study in mineral-driven Chardonnay. Or in the words of Clive Coates, MW “What he produces is pure, elegant and precise. A name to watch…”

Elaborate Wax Capsule

Pierre Yves is particular to ensure that his wines are packed in the best possible manner. He chooses to protect the cork with a wax capsule instead of using the more common option of a foil capsule. Most wineries that choose to apply a wax coating do so by hand. Pierre-Yves has a bottling line where the bottle is dipped in wax, followed by a wash before being labelled. On one of my visits to the Domaine I was able to see this in operation which you can see in this video!

Pierre Yves Colin Morey is very particular about every single aspect including wax coating each bottle to protect the corks and prevent oxidation.

Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes stockist in India

Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chenevottes

The Premier Cru vineyard of Les Chenevottes is at the Northern end of the village bordering the Grand Cru Montrachet. These two vineyards have much in common sharing similar soil composition, exposure to the sun, orientation and flavour.

There is a rich textural beauty to this wine which almost places it on par with a Grand Cru from some estates. It is a big, complex wine with white fruits, vanilla and almond flavours to complement the minerality and hall mark nose. Totally captivating.

Chassagne Montrachet Village Les Ancégnières

Chassagne Montrachet Les Ancégnières

These are the oldest vines of the domaine having been planted in 1930. Superbly located beside Batard-Montrachet.

This wine delivers everything, some pear, lemon zest, floral notes while at the same time it manages to be ample as well as mineral. You would almost think its a Premier Cru.
’Also a hint of sulfur but also with an extra depth of aroma. Fuller, less directly energetic but, beautifully flavoured. A hint steely but beautifully expressive over the palate – precise and gorgeous.’ Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report, October 2018

Bourgogne Chardonnay importer in India

Bourgogne Chardonnay

A smart buy if there is one!

Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: "This wine comes from three plots, adjacent to Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and St Aubin. Pale colour with light green tint. Fine and floral bouquet after some initial reduction, which resurfaces at the back. Splendid energy." (1/2019)

The 2017 Bourgogne Chardonnay offers up pretty aromas of green apples, citrus oil, lime cordial, white flowers and a subtle touch of wheat toast. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with an elegantly textural attack, racy acids and a certain sweetness of fruit that lends this Bourgogne upfront charm. William Kelly for Robert Parker.

Buy Saint Aubin Le Blanc in India

Saint Aubin Le Blanc

A blend of multiple parcels, but all from this same village’s lieu-dit, with 3 generations of vines. In totality, this is the largest parcel of the domaine at over 1 hectare located at the end of the valley above the village of St Aubin.
’A shimmer of reduction – agrume style. More forward, mouth-puckering acidity is the first impression but the wine relaxes some over the palate – yellow citrus and a touch of oak today – the finish fading attractively…’ Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report, October 2019

Saint-Aubin Premier Cru La Chatenière

Saint-Aubin Premier Cru

La Chatenière

From a sheltered south facing vineyard planted in 1970 and 1995 this is often the richest of the St Aubin wines of this domaine. Always extremely limited.
’A striking lemon fruit of freshness on this nose. Wide, mineral, plenty of acidity, really beginning to offer a fine and mouth-watering finish – just a hint of rigour to the structure – but still modest. Very good!’ Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report, October 2019
