The history of Montfaucon Castle dates back to the 11th century, when the first tower of the castle was built. The castle was enlarged in the Middle Ages, it then acquired the triangular shape which it retains today. The restoration and extension of the castle were carried out in the 1880s by Baron Louis. The new facade recalls the Scottish style, the result of maternal influences. The castle retained its shape, making it the only triangular castle still inhabited today.
Wine has been made at Chateau de Montfaucon since the XVIth century. It is located in Montfaucon in the heart of Rhone Valley, on the right bank of the river Rhône, barely a 15 minute drive from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. As far back as 1829 they bottled and sold wine in Paris under their own label “Vin de Monsieur Baron de Montfaucon.”
